JioFiber appears to be developing support for static IPs. This was discovered on the Jio.com self-care portal after logging into a JioFiber account.

Whats static ip and how it will
Be usefull for us??
Normal users doesn't need it to be honest but those using it says they get better connectivity with static IP especially in places where users face routing issues.

There are various other use cases too, like you can whitelist your IP for accessing a web server or app etc. which can provide better security.

In Airtel Xstream Fiber, static IP costs Rs. 299 + GST per month.

Hope they are actually working on bringing it to regular customers and it's not actually a glitch. Also, hope routing will be better with it.

I get almost double ping in JioFiber compared to local ISPs here. ;-;

bro, first of all there are 2 types of IP addresses - external IP (or public IP) and internal IP (or local IP). the external IP address is provided by your ISP and the local IP address is provided by your router. you can check the internal IP on the device settings itself like a printer's menu or in windows settings screen on a PC. but to check the external IP you probably have to use an online tool like whatismyip.com. at this point, be aware that you can have a static IP address for both external and internal IP.

Internal IP address:
Internal IP address is provided by your router to all the devices connecting to it. typically, the router assigns IP addresses like 192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3 etc., to the devices connecting to it in a local network. you can assign static IPs to devices through the router's admin page. when you assign a static IP then that device will always have that IP address even when you restart the device or the router. usually, enterprises assign static IPs to server computers and printers connected to their local network so that all the computers on that network can easily connect to those printers and server. the data transfer will be faster as well. i have 3 printers at my shop for which i have assigned static IPs through my router as shown in the below screenshot. it becomes easier for me to access those printers using their IP address as they are fixed always. i can modify the device settings of those printers remotely, without going near that printer or even without leaving my seat.

External IP address:
External IP address is provided by your ISP. generally, ISPs provide dynamic IP address because of the limitations in the number of IP addresses available globally. IPv6 was implemented only because of this limitation and IPv6 can handle almost unlimited IPs. since the IP is provided dynamically, your IP address might change whenever your router gets restarted. but most of the general public users is not affected by this change in IP addresses.

If you wish to get a Static IP from your ISP, you have to opt for a paid service. this Static IP basically means a fixed IP address for your router which will be assigned by the ISP. this IP address will not change when your computer or the router gets restarted. so, what is the use of this fixed IP address?
  • since your IP address remains the same it becomes easier to access the device and interruptions in internet will be reduced considerably.
  • the data transfer is supposed to be faster on a static IP device. so, you can find your downloads working faster than normal.
  • since the IP is stable, the consistency of availability of the device becomes better. this is useful for servers, file hosting sites, torrents siteswhich requires continuous availability.
  • also it becomes easier to remotely access the devices if you are using a static IP. since it is a fixed IP you know the IP address at any time and anywhere and you can access it faster.
  • software developers can use their static IP to test their applications privately by giving the access only to themselves. no other IP can be able to access that site.
  • many brands will use this static IP to design/update/test new features on their website before making it live for public.
  • there are many other more technical use cases as well

@SPANDAN Brother, I'm using Jio Fiber and experiencing high ping and latency problems during gaming. However, for other activities like video calls, internet browsing, and watching videos, it works well. The performance is good enough that a typical user probably won’t notice any difference.
