The children’s department at Kirkendall Public Library in Ankeny has a full calendar of activities to go with their summer reading program “One World, Many Stories.”

As part of his annual Reading Road Trip, popular IPTV Kids Clubhouse host Dan Wardell will visit Ankeny on Thursday, July 7.

Wardell’s interactive programs will be at 9:15 and 10:15 a.m. at Westwood Elementary School, 2920 N.W. Ninth St. Now in its fifth year, the Reading Road Trip features an original story that is connected to the summer reading program’s theme and encourages kids to explore “One World, Many Stories” complete with an official Reading Road Trip passport for every child in attendance. No pre-registration is required and there is no cost to attend this program.

Creations with a Twist Story Time Stage Show will be at 10 a.m. July 18 at Westwood. Balloon artist Daniel Poe creates imaginative balloon sculptures that thrill people of all ages. He twists colorful balloons into recognizable characters, incredible wear-ables, and comical sculptures.
No pre-registration is required and there is no cost to attend this program.

Every Wedesday during July, a different movie will be shown at Northview Middle School cafeteria, 1010 N.W. Prairie Ridge Drive, starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 6: “Despicable Me,” rated PG; July 13: “Megamind,” rated PG; July 20, “Yogi Bear,” rated PG; and July 27, “Gnomeo & Juliet,” rated G. No pre-registration is required for these afternoon movies. Popcorn is provided by sponsors First American Bank and Liberty Bank. Participants can bring their own beverages.

For your child’s safety, parents and caregivers are responsible for supervising and controlling their child’s behavior while at the library. Children ages 5 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times while at the library; children ages 8 and above are allowed to be at the library unaccompanied.

Kirkendall will have modified hours during Ankeny’s SummerFest, which is Thursday through Sunday. The library will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. The library will then be closed on both Saturday and Sunday.
