Just imagine 10 Mbps is the minimum in several countries globally and India has a peak speed of 6.9Mbps- So where do we stand?

Though India recently improved its Internet connectivity with the average speed gone up to 16 per cent quarter-over-quarter from 1Mbps in the Jan-March quarter, the country has a long way to go its global average Internet speed rank is 112. The peak Internet speed in the country stood at 6.9Mbps, while global leader, Hong Kong recorded 49.3Mbps.

The report released by Akamai states that only 1.2 per cent of connections in India have a speed of over 4Mbps. Average global Internet connection speed in the Jan-March quarter of 2012 stood at 2.6Mbps, the report released by Akamai says. Asia Pacific countries like South Korea and Japan have an average speed of 15.7Mbps and 10.9Mbps respectively.

According to Akamai, the main reason in the growth of Internet speed, is due to the rise in number of 'high broadband' connections in countries where 10Mbps speed is the minimum. Just imagine 10 Mbps is the minimum in several countries globally and India has a peak speed of 6.9Mbps- so where do we stand? Denmark, Finland, South Korea, Switzerland and the US lead the average Internet speed list.
