After the demonetization of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, the government has been pushing the digital payments in India. As part of its efforts, the government introduced the UPI platform for easier mobile payments and funds transfer. So far, several banks have launched their UPI apps. Though, the service has been exclusive to Android users. Now, HDFC Bank has become the first bank to launch its UPI service for iOS users. The service has been integrated into its mobile banking app. Here’s how to get started with UPI on HDFC Bank’s iOS app.

To begin with, you need to download the HDFC Bank’s mobile app on your iPhone. In case you already use it, ensure that update it to the latest version. Do note the latest update to the app has arrived on February 2. After you have downloaded/updated the app, login to your HDFC bank. Next, click on the Accounts tab on the bottom panel. You will see the UPI as an option upfront.

You will be required to register with the UPI if you haven’t done already. You also need to create a unique UPI ID, which is listed there as Virtual Address. The transaction process is same as you do on the Android version. Either you can make payments by selecting Virtual Address, Account Number and IFSC, or mobile number and MMID.

The sender and receiver both get an SMS alert on completion of the transaction. Besides making the payment, you can also use the UPI to make collection requests, check transaction history, add multiple accounts, and a dedicated notification for collections.

With the availability of the UPI service for iPhone users, we can expect other banks to launch their services pretty soon. NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant last month had said that the BHIM app will be rolled out to iOS soon, though later he said that the team was still working on fixing some bugs. It will be released after technical perfection has been achieved,” Kant had told BGR India.
