HBO Max to launch on 27 May 2020

Yup 27th is the US launch date.

Don't think it'll come to India as a separate streaming service, rather the contents would be available on different streaming platforms like Shows on Hotstar and Movies on Prime, but once the contract expires with Hotstar, I feel all the HBO Max content would come on Prime Video similar to Germany.

Waiting to see GOT, True Detective etc on Prime Video/Netflix.

IMO HBO Max should launch seperately in India. If priced aggressively it will destroy Netflix in India. HBO is known for good quality content. Most current paying subscribers of Hotstar and premium streaming customers of Netflix. Will move to HBO. Hopefully, it will steal friends away from Netflix too when its launched.

As per their International strategy, it's not going to launch in India. That's for sure. They are making content deals with whomso ever are having content deals with HBO. Consider Canada, UK and some other parts of Europe where they don't have HBO presence and made deals with Bell and Sky respectively. I guess HBO Asia is yet to had to talks with Hotstar as HBO max content without the crown jewel HBO Originals is just another streaming service with no value. I won't be surprised if max originals also end up in Hotstar only. Not sure if HBO Asia or Crunchyroll is handling HBO max content in Asia.

P.s. HBO max is designed and maintained by Crunchyroll and Max team, no involvement whatsover from traditional HBO team ie Casey bloys and his team. HBO Now was built by Bamtech (Disney Streaming Services).

and that's a big "IF"

They cannot do Prime level aggressive pricing in India that's for sure.
Anything is cheaper than ₹800 per month for 4K.

Compared to Netflix, HBO max is premium service in US for which they are charging 15 $ a month. It will be making sense for them as HBO Now is now charging at the same price . In India ₹800 per month is too much even per say with Netflix. That's why they are experimenting with other cheaper ways like Mobile plan etc for increasing subs as they are not able to penetrate market like Hotstar or Prime per say.

Are you guys gonna be happy with HBO Max costing ₹199/m? No annual discount plans. Just ₹199 for all the award winning top rated series, sitcoms, documentary and talk shows.

Do remember unlike Netflix, HBO doesn't offer garbage of any sort. All shows are meant for good viewing experience.

Yeah sure! Thats a great price point. However its not gonna happen. I don't think WB has enough strength to pull this off in India. See the main selling points of other OTT's Prime Video - Agressive movie offering, they have changed how movies are consumed in a small time. Hotstar - Sports is the main selling point even though they have HBO, FX and Showtime content with them.

Consider Disney+ Hotstar offering HBO, FX, Showtime, Hulu originals along with Disney+ and sports and respectable Indian movies is offering @1499, why cannt HBO do it? Even though they do enter with Agressive pricing they don't have strong enough support in India, like Hotstar / prime video has from their parent comapnies to figure out their selling points.
