Petrol & Diesel should come under GST
Price will reduce by ₹20 - ₹25
Petrol and Diesel are the most heavily taxed consumer goods. Many of us are not aware that the total of taxes we pay on these two now exceed their total cost of production and marketing!
We are giving 55.18% tax of Retail Price for Petrol and Diesel.
Here's the breakdown
Cost of Petrol in Delhi Yesterday from IOC
(all costs per litre)
Basic Cost of Petrol after Production - ₹25.83
Central Excise Duty - ₹21.48
Dealer Commission - ₹2.54
State Sales Tax (VAT-27%)* - ₹13.46
Retail Sale Price = 25.83+21.48+.2.54+13.46 = ₹63.31
This is what we pay for 1 Litre Petrol. Same as the case in Diesel.
*State Sales Tax (VAT) differ from State to state.
In Delhi it is 27%
But when u come to Kerala VAT is 31%.
So Price goes high again.
If Petroleum Products are included in GST..
The Maximum Tax Collected could be 43%
(28% GST + 15% CESS) = 43%
So
Basic Price of Petrol Yesterday is ₹25.83
43% Tax (GST+CESS) of ₹25.83 is ₹11.10
So the Retail Sale Price is ₹36.93
Yesterday's Sale Price in Delhi is ₹63.31
With GST ₹36.93
Difference is 63.31-36.93
₹26.38
You can save ₹26.38/L if Petrol is included in GST.
