Government is seeking feedback from stakeholders and general public with respect to bringing changes to this act, if all goes well & consensus is arrived then we will be able to watch all major sports events on Doordarshan across DTH or Cable platforms like it was earlier

The Govt. is seeking equal amount of viewership for DD Sports compared to the original rights holders, Citing public Interests. I personally feel these broadcasts should be restricted to DD Freedish and DTT, Since Prasar Bharati doesn't need to pay anything to acquire any of these rights.

The sports broadcasters might take a 10-15% hit on their subscription revenue if the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) goes ahead with its proposal to amend the Sports Act 2007 to allow the broadcast of events of national importance on private direct to home (DTH) and cable TV platforms.

Doordarshan now wants all matches of men’s hockey WC

“We had acquired the rights from Hockey India knowing fully well that we have to only share the relevant matches. Because of the new notification, our ability to market the property is derailed. Had we known that this is what the government is going to do we would not have bid for the tournament,”said an executive at a private sports broadcaster on condition of anonymity.

Private sport broadcasters including Star India and Sony Pictures Networks are crying foul over the proposed amendment to the Sports Act, arguing that is designed to unfairly benefit Doordarshan under the garb of public interest, as well as private cable operators and DTH platforms, while destroying the exclusivity and incentive for private broadcasters to develop and market big-ticketing sporting events.

The three main objections to the new act raised by private broadcasters are:
1. The requirement of ticker in private channels that the same live event is available on DD
2. The lifting of ban of DD channels in DTH/cable during matches.
3. Entire tournaments and not just important matches have to be shared with DD.
