After the (somewhat) wide release of Google+ this week and a sneak peak at the new Gmail you’d think Google was ready to sit back and enjoy the long weekend. But people who have logged into Google Calendar recently have found out that that’s not the case–GCal has been updated as well. As seen in the gallery below, Google Calendar has been updated to match the design of Google+ and the Gmail “Preview” theme.

Aside from the new look, which has a lot of white space and feels much more “floaty” than we’re used to GCal being, the redesign brings a few new features. These include a Quick Add tool within the Create button that lasts users add-in events with Gcal’s standard commands (Example: Lunch with Tom 2pm 7/11). The My Calendars and Other Calendars areas were cleaned up a lot as well–their backgrounds were removed and color-coding is restricted to their pulldown menus (under the arrows). My/Other Calendars are collapsed by default, and the mini calendar (in the left column) is collapsible as well.

In other, smaller changes the Print and Refresh buttons are icons, as opposed to text links, indicator icons (like an alarm clock) are only displayed when an event is moused over, and some excess Save/Back buttons were removed.

Overall the intention here seems clear: Google Calendar’s designers want to move to something that was cleaner, less cluttered, and–most of all–unified with the Google’s other tools. As GCal has gotten more powerful and more widely used there has been some feature creep and now elements that people don’t need (like that mini calendar) can be hidden from view. The month view is still cluttered if you have more than 3 events in any given day, but the “+X more” popup is cleaner and then Day/Week views are still very usable if you have a busy schedule.

For their part Google notes that changes were made in order to make Gcal more focused, more useable on different devices, and easier to use.

Everyone out there have the new Calendar? If so, how do you like it?

Google has finally updated Calendar for Web with support for Reminders. The move comes months after it added Reminders support for Android and iOS in December.

All the Reminders will be synced to your Google account so you can keep a track of all the scheduled events and appointments. Similar to mobile apps, Reminders will appear at the top of your calendar until you mark it done. All the Reminders you create in Inbox, Keep, and the Google app will also show in Google Calendar.
You might already create calendar entries as reminders to perform a specific task however, you cannot snooze these calendar event. Finally, Reminders created in mobile will show up on the web and vice versa. Google says Reminders feature in the Calendar web app is now rolling out.

Google Calendar for Web gets Reminders

Google has rolled out Calendar for Android feature, which makes scheduling meetings right from a smartphone, easier than ever.

Google says that users will no longer have to be at their desk to catch up on meetings notes, dial into a conference call, or send an email.

“Starting today, if you use Google Apps for Work or Edu, you can schedule meetings from anywhere with “Find a time” in Google Calendar for Android,” Google said in a blogpost. The company adds that “Find a time” lets users schedule meetings with others, even when they are in different time zones. Even if users have a conflicting meeting, it can be easily rescheduled in the Calendar with a single tap.

Google blogpost explains that although “Find a time” makes suggestions, its the user who controls rescheduling, meeting timings etc. Users can even manage calendar for others to schedule meetings for them. Google said that the company is working to bring “Find a time” feature for iOS as well, and easier ways to schedule on web.

Time for a refresh: meet the new Google Calendar for web

Over the years, you’ve shared valuable feedback on how we can enhance Calendar to better fit your needs and we’re excited to bring new improvements. Now, it’s even easier to manage your schedule at your desk. In the new Calendar for web, you can:

  • See conference room details when booking a room. G Suite admins can now enter detailed information about their organization’s meeting rooms—so employees know where a conference room is located, how large it is, and whether it has audio/video equipment or is wheelchair accessible. Employees can simply hover over the room name in Calendar when they want to book a space, and a hovercard will pop up with details about the conference location and resources.

  • Add rich formatting and hyperlinks to your Calendar invites. Link to relevant spreadsheets, documents or presentations in your Calendar invite and open them directly from the new “Event Detail” view. This can help you create more detailed agendas and ensure all materials are in one place before your meeting starts.

  • Manage multiple calendars side by side in “Day” view. Now you can view and manage calendars in separate columns. This makes it easier for employees who manage multiple calendars, like administrative assistants, to schedule meetings on behalf of their teams. Click “Day” view and select the calendars you want to compare.
There are a number of other changes in Calendar, too. Now you can see contact information of meeting participants when you hover over their names in a Calendar invite. There’s also a new way to view and restore deleted items in one place in case you accidentally delete a meeting. Additionally, "Day,” "Week,” and "Month" views are now more accessible, featuring better compatibility with screen readers. For more detail on changes, check out this post.

These new changes in Calendar can help your teams better manage their time, and G Suite admins can enable these new updates starting today. Read this post for more information on rollout options.

The new Google Calendar web interface can now parse times in event titles

Based on the feedback you submitted, we’ve been hard at work to bring the convenience of creating events simply by typing the title and time to the new Calendar on web. To quickly create an event, click the space next to the date you want to add an event to, and type your event’s title and time. Calendar will automatically create the event at the right time for you. TIP: You can also press Shift + C to quickly add an event from anywhere in Calendar!

Maintain visual access to calendar grid: Now, you can collapse or expand the creation/edit view, so you can go back and forth between this screen and the Calendar grid. This allows you to interact directly with the Calendar grid by tapping on the desired time slot, drag & dropping vertically to another time in the same day, or horizontally to another day.
See guest availability without leaving the create/edit view: Easily see the availability of guests directly on the Calendar grid, as their calendars will load as you add them to the event. Google Calendar may also suggest a title for the meeting. After adding guests, organizers can see schedules of their guests by clicking on "View Schedules" or by dragging down the Creation View.

A similar spam is taking place with Google Docs also. Unknown people share documents to your Google account and it's in same language as seen in your screenshot with lots of clickable links.
