There is one good way to check if a screen is 4K, or beyond. It will ideally seem sharper and clearer that the real life outside it. They are meant to evoke a sense of awe and they do that every time you look at a 4k screen playing ultra high definition content. However, there have been complaints over the past two years that this technology is beyond us in every sense, because it is not affordable and there is no content available to play on these screens. But I think the time for 4K has finally arrived. Here are four reasons why:
1. Affordability:
The first 4K televisions in India were priced upwards of Rs 15 lakh. Two years on you can own a 4K screen at as low as Rs 45,000. In fact, by the end of this year, many more brands would have breached the Rs 1000 per inch mark, which would give you a 40-inch screen at around Rs 40,000.
2. Content is here:
Almost all 4K screens are smart televisions, and hence give you access to YouTube. And this now is the largest repository of 4K content. With a decent broadband connection, you will be able to stream content and enjoy it at the best resolution. There is also NetFlix which gives you content that looks stunning on a 4K screen. Even DTH players have at least one channel that offers 4K. You can access more apps like Vimeo from the Google Play store to access high-quality high definition content.
3. TVs with Content:
You will see more brands like LeEco push televisions that offer content natively, good enough for you to cut the cable connection or DTH. This hasn’t really scaled up to offer 4K content or a lot of choices, but it is just a matter of time now.
4. Content creation will pick up:
Creating 4K content is easy but processing it is not. But by early next year, more computers will be able to process UHD content thanks to better processor and cheaper PCs that are capable of doing this. Also, there will be more 4K shooting options available across price points leading to a boost in home videos for instance.
