Finance Minister Sitharaman asks banks to link all customer accounts with Aadhaar by March 2021

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has asked banks in the country to ensure that all customer accounts are linked with their respective Aadhaar card numbers by March 31, 2021.

She also said that all bank accounts should also be linked with Permanent Account Number (PAN) by the March deadline.

Well not everybody in Meghalaya and Assam have Aadhar Cards because of NRC.

Why cant they just keep one unified id number? why is PAN even needed if they are making Aadhar mandatory? the whole premise of PAN was to have one constant number irrespective of how many bank accounts you have, when the same purpose can be served by aadhar then why continue multiple id numbers?
