International League T20 2022 | News and Updates

The owners of the Knight Riders franchise, the Mumbai Indians team and English football club Manchester United - the Glazer family - are set to be announced in the coming days as franchise owners in a new T20 league to be based in the UAE.

The six-team league has been sanctioned by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and is looking to make a space for itself in the January-February window, although its inaugural edition in 2022 is likely to be played in February-March.

Reliance Industries Limited, through its subsidiary Reliance Strategic Business Ventures Ltd (RSBVL) will be acquiring the rights to own and operate a new franchise cricket team in the Emirates Cricket Board’s upcoming UAE T20 League. The move is the first major overseas expansion of Reliance Industries’ cricket operations in the global franchise-based cricket leagues.

The cricket business will now include two cricket clubs in addition to their other cricket related initiatives including sponsorship, consultancy, broadcast, and talent management.

RIL, through Mumbai Indians, is amongst the eight founding members of the IPL and over the years has evolved as the most successful cricket club both on-and-off the field. The deal will see UAE’s T20 League benefit from the company’s commercial and cricket know-how, promising a new and exciting brand of cricket for the Emiratis along with the best learnings, experiences, and entertainment.

Official Announcement from RIL.

Manchester United Football Club's American owner, Lancer Capital, has made its first foray into cricket by acquiring a franchise in the soon-to-be-launched UAE T20 League. The update came a week after Reliance Industries, the owner of Mumbai Indians in the IPL, also announced their investment in the league through a franchise ownership.

Broadcast rights are with ZEE ,so if merger is successful safe to assume it will Broadcast on sony's sports channels

The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has sold the 10-year media rights for its upcoming UAE T20 League for a staggering USD 120 million to Essel Group-owned Zee Network.

A significant aspect of the deal is that the tournament would be telecast on Sony Sports too, as the expected merger between the two major TV networks in India - Zee and Sony - is widely tipped to be completed soon. Predictably, Sony did not participate in the bidding.
