GUNTUR: The wishes of Guntur city public about getting drinking water on daily basis is going to be fulfilled soon. The Telugu Desam plans to get credit for the water scheme to attract the voters in the forthcoming Guntur Municipal Corporation elections. The new capital Amara-vati was proposed in the Guntur city. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is living on the banks of Krishna river at Undavalli in Guntur district and Temporary Secretariat started functioning at Velagapudi in the district. These developments increased alacrity in the Guntur city as it became the main city of the new capital Amaravati

The migration of the people to Guntur city post Amaravati announcement is increasing day-by-day, which is further increasing demand for drinking water. The World Bank-aided Comprehensive Water Supply Scheme is nearing completion. So, the GMC decided to give water taps to every house for the supply of drinking water on daily basis. The GMC is supplying 29,000 kiloliters of drinking water through 25 reservoirs but the quantity was insufficient. All areas of Guntur city are facing drinking water shortage and a majority areas of the city are getting water once in two days. The government had promised supply of water on daily basis following the model of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation which offers water twice a day, but in vain

Locals of Arundelpeta, T. Mukteswara Rao and others said that drinking water became a big problem as the GMC was supplying water once in two days, that too for a short time. They said that many people will take water tap connection if the GMC provided water supply on daily basis. They sought completion of the World Bank comprehensive water scheme which would bring confidence among the public about drinking water supply

GMC officials said that laying of water supply lines beneath railway lines and highways became a major hurdle for the completion of WB water supply project The GMC was working to get permission and they targeted to complete the pipeline laying by December end. GMC commissioner S. Nagalakshmi said that the water scheme would be completed at any cost
