India’s biggest e-learning startup, Byju’s, is close to signing a deal to acquire rival Toppr Technologies Pvt. in a transaction valued at roughly $150 million, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Toppr provides online learning materials to students in grades 5 through 12 and its backers include SAIF Partners and Helion Ventures. It is the latest target for Byju’s, which has been expanding aggressively in recent months to capture the surge in demand for online education triggered by the pandemic. In January, it agreed a $1 billion deal to acquire brick-and-mortar test prep leader Aakash Educational Services Ltd.

Even Unacademy is buying other edu-tech companies or good youtubers who would provide free course on YouTube and some paid course- they are little better though they may be planning to buy other competitors so that users don't have much free alternative option for prep , thankfully for now they do give free learning option albeit its for promotion of their in YouTube or their plus courses .

I hope other upcoming competitors don't give up that easily - time being there are many small & medium players who teach better in offline or online -Sad reality big start up are continuously trying to buy out most of their competitors/peers to finish competition - if they do succeed in wiping out competitor brands we are heading towards monopoly/Duopoly for sure.
