State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Monday launched special tariff voucher (STV) at Rs 16 for 60 MB data for a validity period of a month, for prepaid users.

BSNL released data STV of Rs 16 denomination for free 60 MB data with a validity of 30 days, the telecom PSU in a statement said.

The STV, according to it, is effective from October 7 to October 31, 2016, with an aim to provide internet benefit to normal voice customers.

The offer is a part of telco’s 16th foundation year celebrations.

BSNL was incorporated on 15 September 2000 and started mobile telephony services in 2002, and has close to 10% market share today.

“There is no comparison of BSNL data services with any other telecom operator,” BSNL Board director RK Mittal said.

In Septemeber, the state-driven telco has launched Rs 249 unlimited broadband (BB249) plan that allows users 2Mbps speed for the first 1GB of data, and thereafter speed is throttled to 1Mbps for rest of the month.

The BB249 plan also offers unlimited free calls between 9 pm to 7 am on all Sundays to any network in India.

With the foray of Reliance Jio, BSNL is now aggressively working on to make its data and voice offering more competitive and compelling to consumers.

Earlier, BSNL chairman Anupam Shrivastava said that the telco was ready to match Jio’s tariff.
