BEN Stokes’ Indian Premier League riches could be in danger after the controversial England all-rounder was charged with affray stemming from his Bristol street brawl.

Stokes’ services could change after news he is facing a court date and potential three-year jail time — the maximum sentence should the case be referred to Crown Court, which it can be if the magistrate deems it a serious enough offence.

“We need a level of certainty in case he is not available after he is bought at the auction,” the owner of an IPL franchise told ESPNcricinfo.

“We need to know the degree of control IPL will have on his availability.

“We will seek to understand what happens now: what is the process? What will be happen if there is one eventuality or another?”

There is no date set for Stokes’ trial, meaning he will remain in limbo.

England stood firm throughout the Ashes in not selecting Stokes while he was under investigation, and that seems likely to continue - with the board reportedly split over whether to allow the all-rounder to return to the national set-up.
