The company is completing its protection umbrella to cover browsers, like Chrome and Firefox

TETTNANG, GERMANY: Security expert Avira announced that it reached a milestone of 300 million installations of AviraFree Antivirus, its flagship "freemium" software.
Validation of Freemium
The company credits its recent momentum with the "Avira, Live Free" campaign that it began in late 2011, which drove the point home with a new strategy emphasizing personal freedom and a longstanding history of reliability. The growth over the last three years in Avira's customer base confirms that the freemium business model has further helped the company's success.
"Three-hundred million is a milestone we can be proud of, but our mission is more than a growing user base," said Travis Witteveen, CEO at Avira. "As the consumer IT industry is moving on to smart devices and cloud technologies, we see our users' security needs evolving and we are adapting to meet those needs."
Portfolio of Free Security
Led by Witteveen, Avira has expanded its core antivirus software with a portfolio of free security applications to also cover Macs, smartphones and tablets (including free security apps for Android and iOS). As a result, its active user base has grown exponentially.
The company is completing its protection umbrella to cover browsers, like Chrome and Firefox (Avira Browser Safety), search portals (Avira SafeSearch), and App stores (Avira AppStore), solutions that have all been launched over the past few months.
"Our active and engaged user base is where our focus will be, to protect them in every facet of their digital lives," said Jason Radisson, Executive VP of Online at Avira. "Our mission has evolved from at first protecting PCs, to protecting browsing, to now creating a safe cloud-based ecosystem. The definition of our industry and the value we provide our customers has broadened." Avira Free Antivirus records 300 million installations - CIOL
