Apple started rolling out iOS 9.3 update for iOS devices earlier this week. But if you are using an older device like an iPhone 5s or an iPad Air, you might have to wait a bit longer for the update. Apple is trying to fix an issue wherein updating an older device required the user to enter their Apple ID and password to complete the process. Entering a wrong password would leave the device in an ‘inactivated state’.

Apple has issued a statement to iMore , which says, “In some cases, if customers do not recall their password, their device will remain in an inactivated state until they can recover or reset their password. For these older devices, we have temporarily pulled back the update and will release an updated version of iOS 9.3 in the next few days that does not require this step.”

For those who have entered a wrong password, and have their devices stuck in the inactive state, Apple has posted a workaround. To restore you device, open iCloud.com on a computer, and click on ‘Forgot Apple ID or Password?’ Once logged in using your new password, open ‘Find my iPhone’, select All Devices, and remove your iOS device from the list. You will then be able to setup your device again, using the new credentials.

Apple rolled out iOS 9.3 earlier this week, and introduced new features like Night Shift , password protection for Notes , and improved CarPlay integration among others.
