Recently the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) gave go ahead to the banks for publishing their UPI-enabled apps on Google Play Store. Now, public sector Andhra Bank said it has launched an app to facilitate easy transfer of funds and merchant payments using smartphone. Andhra Bank One-UPI App aims at creating less cash and more digital-driven society. The bank partnered with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to introduce Unified Payments Interface (UPI) app in the first phase. The app allows customers to send or receive money using Virtual Payment Address (VPA) and without providing IFSC and bank account details, the statement explained.

The mobile solution offers flawless, easy and secure financial transaction facility between different bank accounts through single app. The service can be availed 24×7 and is available only to Android smartphone users and is available on Google Play store for download.
For those who are still unaware of what UPI is, to start with UPI or Unified Payments Interface is an advanced version of IMPS (Immediate Payment Service) which has the only aim of making funds transfers easier. The new payment interface is simple and eliminates the need of adding payee details such as bank name, branch, IFSC code and full name of the recipient. All one needs to do is create a Virtual Payment Address (VPA), to send and receive payments. The UPI apps will let you make payments to services such as mobile recharge, DTH refill, utility bill payments to name a few.

From a total of 29 banks, NPCI has given its approval to only 21 banks for publishing their apps. As of now, Axis Bank, Union Bank Of India, UCO Bank, ICICI Bank, Federal Bank, Vijaya Bank, Andhra Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Karnataka Bank and Canara Bank have published their apps.
