Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan will be the face of ‘city compost’ campaign, which is a part of the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’, government announced on Friday.

The government had earlier delayed the process of signing actor Bachchan as brand ambassador of ‘Atulya Bharat’ due to his name appearing in the Panama Papers leak, first reported by The Indian Express.

Bachchan recently hosted a government programme in Delhi coinciding with the NDA government’s completion of two years in office.
Earlier this year, the Union Cabinet cleared a policy to lower the the maximum retail price of city compost for farmers. The Centre said it will provide market development assistance worth Rs 1,500 per tonne on the sale of city compost made out of municipal solid waste.

The compost, made out of city garbage, is targeted at not just providing carbon and primary and secondary nutrients to soil but also help in keeping the city clean.
