Alastair Cook set to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record

Alastair Cook is just 36 runs shy of reaching 10,000 Test runs and becoming the youngest batsman to do so.

Alastair Cook has begun the English county season in sublime form for Essex and he looks set to break one of Sachin Tendulkar’s many records when Sri Lanka’s three-Test series begins on May 19.

Cook has amassed scores of 88, 105, 35*, 1, 127* and 65 so far into the County season with a total of 421 runs. But on the Test matches front, he’s got 9,964 runs written next to it. And he could very well reach 10,000 runs in the first innings against Sri Lanka to become the first Englishman and 12th overall to reach 10,000 runs.

More interestingly though, if he does get to 10,000 runs, he would become the youngest one to do so – beating Sachin Tendulkar’s record set in 2005.

Tendulkar had raced to his 10,000th run against Pakistan in 2005 at an age of 31 yrs and 10 months. Cook turned 31 on Christmas Day and if he does score the 36 runs at Headingly, he would reach the milestone with five months separating the two.

1000 runs, if a batsman has gud year...

still if we take an avg of 800 runs in 1 yr, he ll only take 6-7 yrs to do so... :shy
