Ajit Agarkar, the former India pacer, was appointed as the chairman of Mumbai Cricket Association's selection committee on Friday (May 26). Agarkar will head the selection committee for senior and Under-23 set-ups. Nilesh Kulkarni, Jatin Paranjape and Sunil More are the other members of the selection panel.
Agarkar, who made his first-class debut for Mumbai against Gujarat in 1996-97, played 110 first-class games, picking up 299 wickets at an average of 30.69. He also partook in 270 List A games and 62 Twenty20s. Agarkar led the Mumbai side to a Ranji Trophy title in 2012-13. In all, he was a member of eight Ranji Trophy winning sides in his 16-year career.
The 39-year-old served India with distinction, bagging 288 scalps in One-Day Internationals and 58 wickets in Test cricket. Agarkar was also a useful batsman lower down the order, evidenced by the hundred he notched up in the first Test of the four-match series against England at Lord's in 2002.
Meanwhile, Rajesh Pawar, the former slow left-arm orthodox bowler, has been appointed as the chairman of the Under-19 set-up. Avishkar Salvi, Raju Sutar and Santosh Shinde are also part of the panel. Trupati Bhattacharya was chosen as the chairperson of women's committee.
