Apple-Maps-040615.jpg

Apple iPhone users are sure to freak out with this piece of information. Your iPhone has been discreetly tracking every single place you have visited in the past along with the frequency of visits and even the time.

The debate around privacy and mass surveillance intensified over the past few years following the revelations by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden who exposed the governments’ ongoing surveillance programs on citizens.

However, privacy is one aspect that could be intruded by the person sitting next to you or even your suspecting spouse, which in the long run could easily hamper relationships.

While Apple has long maintained that the data its devices collect are absolutely safe and not shared or snooped onto, the hidden map exposes more than it should.
If you check your iPhone’s privacy settings, you’ll see the potential damage the otherwise secure data could bring upon you.

Go to the privacy menu in the settings and under Location Services tap on System Services. In this section, you’ll see all the services which have been tracking your location, like cell network, traffic, etc, which are essentially aimed at improving your overall experience with the service and offer accurate location-related information. Once you scroll all the way to the bottom of the list, you’ll find the Pandora’s box- Frequent Locations. Tap on it and voila, your history is out.

The history of your locations show the exact places you’ve visited in the past, complete with the number of visits and since when have you been frequenting the place.

So if you were at the city pub that one eve you excused from dinner at home saying you were working late, it wouldn’t take your spouse much to find out what exactly the nature of work you had.

Solution? Turn off the frequent locations completely.
