Guide What are thread types and how to choose the correct thread type for your content

Hello everyone,

While creating a new thread, you can now select a specific thread type based on your content. There are four different thread types to choose from, which include question, article, poll, and discussion.

Note: If you select a wrong thread type and want to change it to the appropriate thread type, you need to report it to the team. A team member will change it to the correct thread type. However, changing the thread type can cause some data loss. So, please try to select the correct thread type in the first place to avoid any data loss.

Question threads

Question thread can be used when you are looking for a definitive answer from users or a solution to a particular query. The first post, which includes the query, is pinned on top and displays at the top of each page of the thread.

Users have the option to upvote or downvote any answer, and also sort answers by date or by vote.

The original poster (OP) has an option to mark an answer as a solution. The OP can click or tap on the Mark as solution button on the right side of the answer post to mark it as a solution.

The Mark as solution button will turn green on the solution post.

The solution post is also pinned right below the question post and includes a View full post button. Clicking on that button will take you to the solution post in the thread, where you can react, quote, or reply to that post.

Note: When you get the answer, please mark the accurate and appropriate answer as a solution so that other members can also find the solution easily.

We can check the number of solutions a user had provided via the member's tooltip card. We can also see the most helpful members via the member statistics system.

Article threads

The first post of the Article thread is treated as the article, and provides a higher character limit and media inserts. The styling of the first post is also changed to make it look more like an article. Just like the question thread, the first post of the article thread is pinned on top and displays at the top of each page of the thread. Though on subsequent pages, the article is displayed in a collapsed view and is easily expandable.

If you are interested in writing detailed information, but you aren't a fully skilled writer, article threads type is for you to polish your talent and share your knowledge with others. You can also choose the article threads type to write a detailed review of a product you recently purchased or using.

Poll threads and Discussion threads

Poll threads can be used when you are looking for opinions or preferences. To add a poll to your thread, you will have to select the Poll tab while creating a thread, and scroll down to view the options to create a poll. There aren't really any changes while creating or interacting with polls.

A discussion thread is the classic thread type that we are mostly using. Use discussion thread when you want to discuss with members on a particular topic or your content is not suitable for any other thread types.

This is a major change to our forums' thread system. Hope our members wisely select the thread types while creating the threads. :)

Very interesting. This (marking as answer, article tag, etc.) is a similar implementation as StackOverflow.

If you land into a thread which you think should be of of different thread type than it is now (all threads are discussion type threads currently), feel free to report it and we'll consider changing it if found the request valid.
